For the obtention of these credits, the organization does not need to be already Fairtrade certified, the
Fairtrade Climate Standard is available all type of small-scale organized groups under the Fairtrade’s geo-
graphic scope (Fairtrade International, 2019).
The credits are organized and grouped in three categories.
- Renewable energy projects.
- Energy efficiency projects.
- Forestry projects.

3.4 Best Practices and cases
Case 1: How to get involved
In order to get involved and be able to reduce the carbon print
any type of business, retailer, civil society, organization or
individual has the chance to acquire Fairtrade carbon credits
for a positive impact. The commitment to purchase Fairtrade
carbon credits in their corporate communication and focused
consumer communication.
Furthermore, an assessment of the carbon footprint is required
for the organizations that obtain more than 1,000 carbon credits
per year be both through Fairtrade or a combination of certifications. The organizations will need to place
a carbon reduction plan and year by year increase the amount of purchased carbon credits.
